Grade 1-Sight Word Game

Towards the end of our PALS class today we played a game called, "BAM!" Students took turns pulling out the popsicle sticks from a can. Each stick has a sight word on it. The students have to read the word . If they can read the word they keep the popsicle stick. If someone pulls a "BAM" stick all of the sticks go back in our can.  We got as far as 10 words in a row before someone pulled a "BAM" stick.

JK/SKB PALS

Parent/Guardians of students in JK/SKB,

Please find in your son/daughter's mailbag, a letter with the sounds and words we have been working on in PALS.

Please practice at home to reinforce learning done at school. The students should know the letter sounds presented to date.

Thank-you for your support and cooperation.

Mrs. Sementilli
Here Nathan and Amaree are working with me on sounds. I showed them a picture of an object (example, a candle) and they had to guess what sound the object started with.  This is also done as a whole group activity.

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a safe, restful, and joyous Christmas Break! I am looking forward to the new year and all the new opportunities that are ahead of us.

It is sometimes hard to stay in a routine with all the parties and festivities that come along with Christmas and New Years. I know there were many nights that my kids and I couldn't fit in our nightly reading routine.  That being said, I am eager (I think they are too) to get back into a regular schedule.

It is very important to either read to your son/daughter nightly or have them read to you.  My son (Grade 1) and I sometimes take turns reading (he reads a page, then I read a page). I make sure the books I choose are at his reading level (he can read most words in the story).

My goal for the New Year with this Blog is to take more pictures of the kids during PALS class! Wish me luck!

If you ever have any questions about choosing appropriate books for your son/daughter, or any other PALS-related questions please don't hesitate to contact me at the school.
Happy New Year!
