Here are a few pictures from today's PALs class (a few were camera shy and didn't want their picture taken).

PALS Lessons

Please note that if you were having trouble accessing the KPALS or Gr. 1 lessons through the tabs at the top, the problem had been resolved!

JK/SK Information

It is very important to continue to review sounds and sight words at home on a daily basis. In JK/SK the students have been introduced to the following sounds:

 a - as in alligator
 m - as in mom
 t - as in turtle
 s - as in snake
 b - as in bed

The students have also been introduced to the sight word : the

Students are blending the sounds introduced to make words: mat, at, sat, etc.

Ask your son or daughter to find something in the room that starts with the "m" sound. See if they can find something. Make a fun game of "I Spy." Say, I spy, with my little eye, something that starts with the sound "t."  Try to make it fun and quick. Let me know if you need any other ideas.

There is also a link on my page "KPALS." Here you will find a copy of the pals lessons, as well as an audio recording on the proper pronunciation of each letter sound.

We are currently on Lesson 7.

Leaders -JK/SK

We have begun our PALs lessons and are working on letter sounds, A, S, T, and M as well as the word "the."

We also started blending the sounds to make small words (at, mat, sat).

It is important to review sounds with your child to reinforce learning.

Here are a few pics of some of the leaders.

Grade 1 Sight Words

Below you will find a copy of the sight words the Grade 1 students will be learning in PALS. I will send home a copy with your son/daughter shortly. It is very important that the students practice these sight words nightly (just 5 at a time until they have mastered them).

My son is also in grade 1 and I like to write these words on index cards (5 at a time) and review with him before he goes to bed.

If you have any questions please let me know. Your co-operation and support are greatly appreciated.

A New Beginning

I started the year teaching Gr. 1 at St. John School. Although I was enjoying my time there, with the reorganization of the schools I have now accepted a position back at St. Bernard School. I am very excited to be back and look forward to working with the St. Bernard School Community.

Let the journey begin!
