Grade 3 Charlotte's Web Meets EQAO

The Grade 3 class has now finished reading Charlotte's Web. We enjoyed this classic tale and also watched the movie. Since EQAO is coming up I thought, why not practice a few EQAO-type questions. Here is a copy of what we will be working on today...a little reading, writing and even math =)

Charlotte’s Web
By: E.B. White

1. Charlotte saves Wilbur’s future, and Wilbur saves Charlotte’s future. Use examples from the text and your own ideas to show how each character accomplishes this.

   2.    In Chapter 17, Mr. Arable gave Fern two quarters and two dimes, while he gave Avery five dimes and four nickels. Is this fair?  Show your work.

  3.   Circle five words that best describe Templeton.

fun             crafty               generous             sneaky          rat

sheep           glutton           bashful              smart           loving

4. Write a paragraph explaining whether or not you would recommend this book to a friend.

Ideas for my paragraph

Write your paragraph here. Remember to check your spelling, punctuation, and grammar.

TGIF Fun

Happy Friday everyone! Today the JK/SK PALS class was introduced to a letter/sound matching activity. Last night I borrowed some of my own little kiddos toys from home. I got a hula hoop, placed the items in the centre of the hoop, and had letter cards around the hoop. I introduced the items to the students and had each student have a turn matching an item to a letter sound. Some items had to have two letter sounds (shark, cheese, etc). These kids did great and seemed to enjoy this activity!

Here are a few pictures from our activity.

The Grade 1's enjoyed a few Just Dance Songs at the end of class. I must say, they had some good dance moves!!

In Grade 3, we are almost done Charlotte's Web. Only two more chapter's to go. Any suggestions for our next Read Aloud? Hmmm...

KPALS Review

Take a look at this Slideshow Review the JK/SK class will be working on tomorrow. The students have now been introduced to all 26 sounds and some blends (ch, sh, qu). If possible, please review the sounds and words with your son/daughter.

Fun Sight Word Work

Today the grade 1's each got an iPHONE. Not a real one of course, but laminated template (from Pinterest).
They were instructed to use this sight word page and use it to"text" their words on the phones.
We used dry erase markers and hi-lighters to write on the phones (the dry erase markers showed up better but hi-lighters seemed to be more fun for them because of the colours).

Grade 3 Update

In Grade 3 we have been reading Charlotte's Web. We read one chapter a day, and then work on retell, main idea and comprehension questions related to the story. Last week I introduced how to write a persuasive letter (something they are working on with Mrs. James).  While I was testing the students reading, each student wrote a letter to Mr. Zuckerman explaining to him why he should let Wilbur live.

Here are a few pictures from today's partner reading.
Peter didn't want his picture taken but I guess A.J. was okay with it :)
Here are some close up pictures of the folders I made for partner reading. It has all of the retell questions, paragraph shrinking and prediction relay information.

I also have information for the readers about how to make corrections along with step by step information on procedures (incase I am away).
