JK/SK Leaders
Here are a few pictures of the leaders for PALS today. I always like to see the students get excited to lead the class!

Also, the JK/SK class has been getting letter sound stamps in the morning. I put a stamp on their hand before we do morning prayer so they know which hand to use for the sign of the cross. So I thought, let's make it cross-curricular and have the stamp be a letter sound we are working on. Today we were working on the "u" sound so you may notice a little "u" (as in umbrella) on your son/daughters right hand.

Grade 3 - James and the Giant Peach
Good Monday Morning!
In Grade 3 we are working on Retell while reading James and The Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. It is one of my favourite read alouds to do with the students. One of the activities the students like to do is to roll the "Retell Cubes." I purchased these foam cubes a few years ago, and they are always a hit with the students. There are many different retell questions that are on them.
Each day before we begin our partner reading, I read a short chapter and we discuss what we have read.

JK/SK PALS Review
I made this slideshow for my kiddos in JK/SK. The letter sounds and words are no different than the ones I use in the lessons on chart paper, but sometimes adding the projector and presentation makes things more interesting.
Feel free to download and use with your son/daughter at home. At the top of each slide are the instructions to ask them. For example, "What Sound?"

Letter Factory
Today the JK/SK students enjoyed watching "Letter Factory," by Leap Frog. Here is a sample from the movie. I bought this a few years ago at Target for my own son to review the letters and sounds.
Check it out!
Here is a picture of the DVD cover.
More Pictures ...
The students are settling nicely into the PALS routine. I will be testing letter sounds (JK/SK & Gr. 1) and sight words (Gr. 1) this week.

The JK/SK class has been working very hard on learning their sounds and words. The following are a list of the sounds we have worked on so far:

One strategy you may want to try is print these sounds and words and review nightly with your child.
We have also been working on the -at (cat, sat, rat, bat) and -an (man, can, etc.) word families.
